how can I pick up noise environment with relatively cheap equipment?
I have a Micro 24/96 from M-Audio with a couple of cheap microphones, the type of Setup (on a budget) would be the best pick up the peaceful ambience of a relatively quiet / remote location? as foreign, the ambience of a room or where increadibly.
I was once the cheap microphones and covered or muffled it with a soft cloth and it worked. Or are you looking for something a little louder?
