Cardioid Condenser Microphone
Condenser microphones for computers?
I have a small question. Would I be able to use any condenser microphone and connect to my computer via USB? I know there are several condenser mics out there that are specially made with a USB cord ... but would it the same for condenser microphones with regular microphone cable? I was thinking about buying a microphone for my computer when I save songs, but I'm really interested in buying the "AT4040 cardioid condenser microphone" but done with a microphone cable. Would I need to buy a USB microphone cord?
A microphone is an analog signal. It is intended to be connected to an amplifier, then a Tape Recorder or a PA system or radio transmitter, something like that. A USB port is a digital port. For a microphone to be connected a USB port requires some electronics, an ADC - analog to digital converter - which converts the analog signal to digital bits and bytes. Microphones that plug into USB ports are now integrated. Or you can buy various boxes you can plug in a microphone, and other analog sources, and it plugs into the USB port. Sometimes it is also a mixer. Google "USB microphone and converter you will see what is available. So companies like Creative Labs make a number of "external sound cards" that have connections for speakers, microphone and line level inputs, and connect to USB. There is an advantage to this regard, within the electronic computer is very noisy, so you get a clearer signal if you use an external box (If a bit more expensive).
