If I better sound quality from my four-track cassette recorder was when I through a mixer pre-amplifier?

It depends what you are trying to do ... If you want to mix or just only listen to the recording? You should find that it 4 x 1 / 4 "outputs, one for each track - if so, can you run it in a mixer. I'm just not clear to achieve what you want? So you can be certain to control additional equalization reserve, but the "quality" of the recording remains the same (ie if there is no distortion, etc.) .. When you mix, My advice would be to not headphones headphones as the sound in your will be quite different if you in the game on a Hi-Fi or car ... (I have since ... disappointments to avoid - do not do it). Play through some low to medium quality speakers to get "the lowest common denominator" effect ..
