Is a preamp and / or mixer necessary Shure SM58 mic?

Hi, I'm thinking about getting Podcasting Shure SM58 for to use, that is the connection to my PC sound card (Creative Labs X-Fi Platinum). Should I buy a preamp, like, or is this something I can with a separate blender to achieve? I'm confused. Any recommendations? Thank you
