Do I need an amplifier or simply a monitor / speaker?

I have my guitar through a Line 6 M13 with the expression of several / pedals assigned to that volume. Do I need to run my sound through an amplifier or a speaker or monitor shall do the job? If not what kind of I must be seeing amplifiers and since I have all my effects? Thanks for any help ... please have patience with the stupid question (I'm new to these things).

You have the option not to buy an audio amplifier and running your guitar through your computer or headphones. However, an amplifier is useful for practicing and play with others. If you want to hear their effects via an amplifier with the least amount of coloration of the stage, you may want to consider purchasing an amplifier Solid State with a more neutral effect on the sound. Roland is a good brand for that. I prefer a natural sound tube saturation, so I personally Traynor.
