Gold-plated Banana plugs - Are they worth it?
I am installing an audio system throughout house, so I have a lot of speakers I need to connect. The speakers are good, but not for grade or anything (about $ 100/pair JBL speakers). I'm not really an audiophile either. I wonder if I need to Banana plugs Gold-plated, or if regular banana plugs suffice.I guess is going to cost me $ 200 in the plated connectors gold, and I'm not sure if it's worth. The regular banana cost almost nothing. I connected a few of them using cheap connectors as a test, and I thought that it sounded a bit dull, but I'm not sure if it's just a psychological thing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Unlike marketing propaganda, no difference discernible audible on the new socket connection between a standard and a gold-plated plug. The only situation where gold-plated connectors are preferred is where a high potential for corrosion. If the connectors are to be handled or if you are on the seashore, it is highly unlikely that gold-plated plugs serve nothing better than a standard connector.
