How I can connect my surround sound system to a basic DVD player?

At this point, I have my surround sound system connected my Xbox 360 ... but that does not play my burned discs ... but my DVD player reads them really cheap ... How I can connect the surround sound system the DVD player, cable do I need a luxury? The Xbox comes with cable and all I had to do was plug it in, this is now getting too complicated for me understand. any suggestions would be appreciated, and if you need me to elaborate .... tell me what you need to know. boston is a digital surround sound setup and a Panisonic DVD-S1 player. If you are just playing burned DVD's, then you can connect RCA cables (red and black) from the DVD player's output to the receiver input. If you are looking for a digital surround sound movies, you will need a digital cable, coaxial or optical. If the DVD player is cheap, it might just have coaxial.
