Emergency Disaster brings
It's hurricane season once again! The time of year when those of us in the south really get question. Since 2005, we have withstood Hurricanes Katrina, Gustav and Ike. Although we did through, I know many people who are lives changed at least one of these storms.
Hurricane Katrina was a nightmare for my hometown of New Orleans and the north coast, including Slidell, where I spent most of my younger years. Before Katrina, my grandparents lived in the same house in New Orleans for almost 40 years. As Katrina approached us pleaded with them to evacuate. As was the case with all other previous hurricanes, they refused. Less than 24 hours before the arrival of Katrina, by the grace of God, decided to leave. Later took home the same day 10 + feet of water. If they had stayed so would probably have been killed.
The storm surge and flooding would probably have killed my grandparents did like thousands of other residents of New Orleans. Having survived the floods, and could, literally, 1-2 weeks apart depending on where you live. Katrina was so devastating that government officials were not prepared for the number of people who needed help.
After only a day or so crime began to rise, by day three parts of the city were literally a war zone. Think about it for a second. In most cases people had no power, no food, no water (the flood water was contaminated and not safe for drinking), and no communication with the outside world. self-defense and security are a priority defined as the National Guard was called in to take control of the city. People kill each other, stealing, looting, it was a day area of modern warfare.
The New Orleans Superdome was used as an emergency shelter and thousands went to the dome because they felt confident that it was a safe haven. In the case of Katrina, which could not be further from the truth. People were killed and many more raped and sexually assaulted in the Super Dome in the days after Katrina.
There was and is a great need for personal security products at any natural disaster. How many people would have liked to have some sort of self defense product when things got really tough in New Orleans? Again, there was and is a definite need for surveillance equipment in times of crisis. An eye in the sky " which have proved very beneficial when it comes to determining what happened during and after the worst natural disaster in American history. Imagine being able to review a video account of what happened during and hours after the storm.
In Baton Rouge, which is currently live, Hurricane Gustav had the wind in the sails and we finishing our recovery now. We all hope and pray he was saved from a major hurricane this year, only time will tell.
