I installed SONAR 8 in an update of 32-bit Windows Vista system that includes Service Pack 1. This PC is powered by a 3GHz Intel Core Extreme Q6850 CPU and has 4GB of RAM. With SONAR Version 7, Mac users could finally be submerged in SONAR through Boot Camp (An application to run the Windows operating system on Intel-based Mac). Version 7 ran smoothly on my Mac, so I installed SONAR 8 on that computer, too. I configured a Windows XP partition on an Intel dual-core 2.66GHz Mac OS X 10.4.9. After installation, I visited Website Cakewalk and updating these systems to the latest 8.0.2 patch.

For audio input and output of the Mac, I used a Lynx AES16 card connected to a Mytek 8 × 192 AD / DA via AES / EBU connections, with a controller from M-Audio Keystation 49e MIDI / keyboard. I connected the computer with Windows Vista to a powered FireWire ASIO MOTU 828mkII audio I / O functions. New to SONAR 8 is the support for WASAPI (Windows Audio Session API) drivers. This new standard for Windows Vista offers better compatibility with audio devices that do not have ASIO drivers. In addition, SONAR and requires no annoying reboot multiple applications at changing various driver settings - A review of the reception. The first released version 8, I had the pleasure of seeing the same GUI as version 7 - but beneath the surface known of the application are extensive new features.

Previously, using software synthesizers and virtual instruments required SONAR the inclusion of a MIDI track and an audio track for each instrument. In SONAR 8, provides an instrument track, MIDI and audio in one convenient runway strip. Although I could not create an instrument track from the "Add New Track" button, which came down from the Insert menu.

The first instrument was launched Amber TruePianos 'module, a reduced version of 4Front Technologies' TruePianos VSTi. SONAR 8 now offers the full (not LE) version of the engine sample-playback/synthesis Dimension Pro and 8GB bass, strings, guitars, electronic sounds, and the Hollywood Edge FX library. Dimension Pro also is expandable through expansion packs or user WAV PCM samples. Finally, for the loop / lovers of rhythm, a new instrument on the list is Beatscape. Resembling an Akai MPC, Beatscape includes 16 pads, 4 GB of content and REX file support. You can shoot through the graphical user interface Beatscape or a MIDI controller.
